Business law is about more than asking, “Is this legal?”
A sound legal decision must also account for timing, cost, leverage, commercial relationships, and the likelihood of a practical recovery. The legally aggressive option is not always the commercially sensible one.
We begin by understanding what your business is trying to achieve. We then explain the relevant Taiwan law, identify the real risks, and help you compare the available options in practical terms.
Early advice can preserve options that disappear later.
Businesses often seek legal advice only after a relationship has broken down. In many cases, the most valuable time to consult counsel is before signing, responding, terminating, or escalating.
Before Signing a Contract
The commercial terms may look clear while liability, termination, payment, and dispute provisions create hidden exposure.
When Payment Is Delayed
The timing and wording of your response may affect negotiation leverage, evidence preservation, and later recovery.
Before Ending a Partnership
A poorly planned termination may trigger damages, operational disruption, or an avoidable dispute.
During a Major Negotiation
Legal input can clarify fallback positions and ensure that agreed commercial terms are accurately documented.
After Receiving a Legal Notice
An immediate reply may create harmful admissions. The claims, evidence, and likely next steps should be assessed first.
When Legal Questions Keep Recurring
If contracts, staffing, payment, and external documents regularly require review, ongoing counsel may be more efficient.

Questions about business legal services in Taiwan
Does a small company really need ongoing legal counsel?
Not every small business needs an annual retainer. However, startups, studios, SMEs, and individual businesses may benefit when contracts, payment, cooperation, staffing, or other legal questions arise regularly. We can help you compare one-time services with an ongoing retainer based on actual usage.
Do we have to sign an annual retainer before your firm can assist us?
No. We also provide one-time legal consultations, contract review, legal drafting, attorney letters, negotiation support, and dispute resolution. An annual retainer is an option for businesses with recurring needs, not a prerequisite.
Can you review or revise an English-language contract?
Yes. We review and revise English commercial agreements with attention to the legal relationship, transaction structure, performance and payment terms, liability, risk allocation, default remedies, and termination mechanisms.
Can a foreign company communicate with the lawyer entirely in English?
Yes. Foreign nationals, overseas companies, and international headquarters may conduct consultations, document discussions, and case communications directly in English.
What should we do after receiving a demand letter or legal notice?
First assess the facts alleged, the contractual and legal basis of the claim, the available evidence, and the sender’s likely next step. Avoid a rushed reply that could create an admission or weaken your position before the matter has been reviewed.
Does a commercial dispute always require litigation?
No. Litigation is one of several options. A business dispute should also be evaluated in light of negotiation leverage, the continuing relationship, time and cost, the other party’s ability to pay or perform, and whether a favorable judgment can realistically be enforced.
Important business decisions deserve a clear view of the legal risk.
Whether you are preparing to sign a contract, entering a major negotiation, dealing with a developing dispute, or facing a recurring operational issue, the first step is to understand your options.
