When Timing Matters

Criminal defense often begins before trial.

What is said, signed, or submitted during the early investigation may shape the rest of the case. Understanding the allegations and procedural risks before making important decisions can matter.

01

Police questioning or a summons

Clarify whether you are being questioned as a suspect, defendant, complainant, or witness—and understand your legal position before the interview.

02

Prosecutor investigation

Assess the allegations, available evidence, potential offenses, and how your statements may affect detention, charging, or later trial strategy.

03

Arrest or pretrial detention risk

When liberty is at stake, counsel may assist with attorney visits, immediate case assessment, and preparation for detention-related proceedings.

04

Criminal trial or appeal

Review the record, challenge evidence and legal reasoning, develop defense arguments, and identify potential grounds for an appeal.

Common Questions

Criminal cases in Taipei and Taiwan

Should I speak with a lawyer before police questioning?

If you are being investigated as a suspect or defendant, consulting a criminal lawyer before questioning may help you understand the alleged offense, your procedural position, potential legal risks, and how your statements could affect later stages of the matter.

Does a prosecutor's summons mean I have been charged?

Not necessarily. The matter may still be under investigation, and defendants, complainants, witnesses, or other relevant persons may be summoned. The first step is to confirm the capacity in which you have been summoned and the purpose of the hearing.

Can a foreigner handle a Taiwan criminal case in English?

We provide English-language legal services and explain Taiwan criminal procedure, evidence, legal risks, and strategic options directly in English. Court and government procedures may still require Chinese-language documents or interpretation depending on the circumstances.

My family member has been detained. Can I contact a lawyer?

Yes. Family members may contact our office and provide the information currently available. Whether formal representation can be arranged, and who may retain defense counsel, depends on the person's procedural status and the applicable legal requirements.

Do you also represent victims filing criminal complaints?

Yes. We assist victims and complainants with reviewing the facts, identifying possible criminal offenses, organizing evidence, drafting complaints, and representation during a prosecutor investigation.

Can an unfavorable criminal judgment be appealed?

Depending on the stage of the case and applicable procedural requirements, an appeal may be available. A lawyer can review the judgment, evidentiary findings, procedure, and legal reasoning to assess possible appellate issues. Appeal deadlines require immediate attention.

How much is an English legal consultation?

The English consultation fee is NT$8,000 or USD 250 per hour. If you formally retain our firm afterward, the consultation fee may be fully credited toward the attorney fee, subject to the terms of the engagement.
